In September 2017, I was heading to Dallas, TX for a business conference and I was excited to meet my accountability group in-person. Pete, a member of my group, had invited one guest, this guy who is tall, handsome, and the friendliest health nut I ever met, Mike Bruce. It was like meeting a long lost friend that I didn’t know I was missing. I was working on another round of healthy eating to lose weight (something I have struggled with all my life regardless of how much health knowledge I have). Mike recognized my struggles and ability to refrain from eating terribly at the conference.
We stayed in touch after Dallas and continued to talk business and health by Zoom video calls. My husband Avery at one point told me I could only talk to Mike if we I had 3 hours of free time to devote to the call. Our conversations felt so natural and easy.
What I admire most about Mike is his ability to make you feel comfortable no matter where you are in your health journey. I have struggled with my weight since high school and had tried so many different plans. Mike was amazing and refreshing to talk to. His excitement for nutrition, his understanding of weight struggles and his ability to give you tangible action steps were perfect for me. Mike and I were talking more as friends and not official coaching but Mike can’t help himself at sharing his knowledge since he lives it and breathe this stuff.
Two years later Avery and I were going to New Jersey for a Pumpkin Plan Coaching, that I’m certified in, and Profit First Conferences and we decided to drive there from Minneapolis, MN. Yes, this is a huge road trip and it did take a while but there were so many benefits to this trip.
One of them was getting to see family and friends along the way, like Mike and Kim Bruce in Pennsylvania! What an amazing couple, and even better people. They made us feel at home, cooked amazing food like meat waffles (sounds awful, tastes great!), and took us sightseeing in Pittsburgh. We loved every minute with it and true to our normal banter we talked about everything, business, coaching, nutrition and of our love for traveling. We found ways to encourage each other and realize we could do the same for others.
And this his how our Gettin’ There with Mike and Amy podcast was born.
