We are super glad we decided to travel early. Storm Jacob has been raging throughout most of the US for the last few days. Blizzards, 10 inches of snow and terrible road conditions through Iowa. If you have never driven through Iowa in the winter then you would be shocked to know how many semis and cars end up in the ditch. Last year on our voyage south we stopped counting after 45. This year there were whiteout conditions again in Iowa it was only for an hour but the rest of the trip all the way to Florida was amazing.
No rain, no snow, just a little bit cloudy. I really hope my family and friends stay safe in this no-travel advisory storm.
Morning of day 3 we got up and going by 8:15 am since our destination was Costco in Mobile, Alabama and it opened at 10am. So, as 10:15am rolled around we got inside picked up fresh veggies, supplies and meat. We had some space left in our Everbilt Cooler after we had pre-packaged and frozen tilapia, chuck roast, butter, pork chops and the best yet, a frozen pre-made lasagna that had been a Christmas gift from my father and stepmother.
The homemade lasagna that traveled well for three days in the cooler! and tastes great!
After we checked into our condo we took the lasagna out to it was ready to cook for supper that night. It was amazing to not have to go anywhere or cook anything for our first meal here! What a greatgift that was, thank you Sharon!
We spend most of the day unpacking the car and putting the items away in this huge condo. Honestly, it’s too big but we are going to enjoy it anyways. We are in the Lost Key Resort in Perdido Key, with it’s pull-in private garage and two complete floors and spacious rooms. There is no shortage of storage space this time.
Mike’s suggestion to go to bed the first night at a reasonable normal time. I guess I did. I usually go to bed around Midnight but during this trip it was about 9pm every night so first night in the condo what did I do? Stay up to 1am watching the entire 3rd season of “Anne with an E” on Netflix. As a kid I waited for PBS to have it’s telethon because they always showed “Anne of Green Gables” and I was in love with those characters. The next day, I paid for that and even on Sunday as well. I’ve taken several naps and have continued to wake up at 6am, and I’m not a morning or a nap person. We did our run to Target yesterday to get some supplies and food that we were needing, put together a puzzle (I love puzzles, it’s not just for old people and kids) and even played a game with Avery (Rise of Tribes).
Just some of the kitchen and food items we brought with us.
Today, we went to the workout gym and took a walk on this gloomy windy day.
It’s still better than 10inches of snow! How we are so greatful and excited to be here!
Our home for the next six weeks.
